Autumn, Linger
Autumn, linger for awhile.
Amber leaves turn up a smile,
golden fields and deep blue skies,
cinnamon and apple pies.
Pine cones, acorns, birch and oak,
evening smell of chimney smoke.
Pumpkin patches near the barn,
sweaters knit with heavy yarn.
Autumn, just a few more days,
I’m not finished with my praise--
Stay with us a wee bit more,
Keep stern winter from my door.
