The Pixie Kingdom Beyond the dells and rolling hillsides, the flower pixies' kingdom lies; there, flowers bloom like tinted soft clouds-- but send no fragrance to the skies. Around this little pixie homeland, a thistle witch has cast a spell; to make the flowers bloom and grow big-- although they lack the lovely smell. But little pixies have their duties: to pull up all the wilting weeds; they glumly trudge through fields and valleys, with their big bags of flower seeds. At dawn, before the sun is rising, the flower planting must commence-- with daffodils and pansies, winding, and little roses by each fence. Oh, how they work from day to night time, to beautify the hills and dales! Through meadows and 'cross narrow rivers, they carry sacks, their tools, and pails. But pretty as the land may be, there, with flowers blooming everywhere, no perfume will their petals offer to sweeten up the scentless air. One day the pixies found a potion: this magic bottle had a card, a pretty picture of a rose bush, which bloomed in Mr. Mousie’s yard. With that, the pixies had a big plan, they found a box and broke a stick, then propped it up by Mousie's doorway, oh, they devised a clever trick! When Mousie woke up from his napping, he wandered out of his warm bed; the pixies pulled the stick right over, and then the box fell on his head! They sprinkled on him magic potions, with full intent, a clever deed-- all around on Mousie's soft fur, then made him eat a flower seed! The pixies smiled with satisfaction, but Mousie jumped up in alarm! And when he scurried through the wheat fields, a scent was spread, that broke the charm. Now happy pixies catch those gray mice and sprinkle them, then let them run-- In their once scentless, flowery land, it now smells great, and they have fun! |
