Rose-Patterned Frame

    One day, you may view
    an aged, cherished photo,
    with my image held inside
    a rose- patterned frame of silver.
    This five-year old constantly smiles through
    the glass, and you, just half awake,
    squint to study my timeless face.
    A fading band of mountains borders the lake
    where I am knee-deep in water,
    holding a floral skirt tightly in my
    little fists, wrapping it around my thighs.
    A bird stands on the dock, intrigued
    by my childish antics….
    See how the sun seems to tickle
    a smile from my lips, while
    I tilt my head for the camera?
