Yesterday's Flower

Don’t dig that pretty rose bush up!
You know it was a gift to me,
just planted there on Mother’s day,
the year of nineteen- ninety- three. t

A present from by my little girl,
who’s moved out since, and gone--
I swear I’ve seen a bud or two
come lift their heads above the lawn!

You say, it will be gone by June
and somehow neither rain nor shine
will help to nurse it back again?
I think it’s never looked so fine!

    They are my rosy memories,
and I'm determined they should last--
Those flowers bloom each time I look,
when I remember days gone past.
